Romania back in the Air Malta network. Now also as scheduled service

Air Malta has added another destination to its route network and will start operating a weekly (Thursday) flight to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. These new scheduled flights, which for years have been operated by Air Malta as a charter service, have now been upgraded to a scheduled one.  Scheduled flights to Bucharest will start as from 17th May 2018 with the sale of seats starting today. Go-Light hand luggage one-way fares start from just Eur39.

Paul Sies Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer stated, “Our new service to the capital of Romania is another achievement in connecting the Maltese Islands to major cities. We have been operating charter services to Bucharest for years together with our travel partners and we believe that the market is now mature enough for scheduled services. The introduction of this new service follows our current growth strategy that will enable us to tap into new markets together with our travel partners. We are working hard to make this and all the other new routes a success.”

Air Malta’s Chairman, Dr Charles Mangion added, “This is more good news for Air Malta customers who now have the opportunity to visit Bucharest and Romania using Air Malta’s services. Today’s announcement is yet another step forward in the strategy to connect Malta with the rest of Europe and truly become the ‘Airline of the Mediterranean’. Together with our partners, the tour operators, travel agents and other stakeholders the airline is working hard to fill up all the capacity whilst enhancing tourism opportunities and supporting other economic sectors important to the islands’ development.”

The Minister for Tourism, Hon Konrad Mizzi said, “With an ambitious schedule in place, Air Malta will be operating over 4,000 (+30%) more flights than last year. We are continuing to work on our growth strategy and expanding Air Malta’s network. The new routes and added frequencies to popular destinations are opening up more the Maltese Islands to new tourism, economic and cultural opportunities for the benefit of the local community.”

Bucharest is the largest city in Romania and overlooks the Dambovita River. Renowned for a fascinating mix of historical and elegant architecture that adorns various prominent buildings around the city, it is no wonder that in the early 20th Century the city was regarded as Paris of the East.  Its beautiful tree lined wide boulevards, spectacular parks, landscaped and botanical gardens, majestic buildings along with an incredible number of landmarks make Bucharest a unique destination full of hidden charms. Wander through the streets of Piata Victoriei and Piata Natiunilor Unite and admire the outstanding Cantacuzino Palace and historical places such as the Revolution Square, The Military club, National Savings Bank Palace and The National History Museum.

Visiting the Old town and passing through the narrow cobbled stone streets of this splendid city is a must. Buildings in the old town are currently being restored and in the process the area is being transformed into one of the trendiest entertainment zones in Europe.  The Old city is full of Museums, art galleries, antique shops, restaurants and cafeterias.

A visit to Romania is not complete unless you visit and explore Transylvania, a region which is home to medieval towns, The UNESCO World Heritage sites of Saxon fortified Churches, The Dacian Fortresses and the most famous Castles of all, Bran Castle, better known as Dracula’s Castle.
