Reasons why Kiev should be your next destination

5 February 2019

If you’re wondering whether to put Kiev on your bucket list or not, there’s a simple answer to that thought, absolutely yes! There are so many reasons to visit Kiev; from outstanding architecture to fascinating history to a lively atmosphere. Each of them is already a perfect reason to plan a trip to the stunning capital of Ukraine. Let us share with you our top 5 reasons to head to Kiev!

1. It’s cheap!

In 2018, Kiev was voted as the cheapest holiday destination by many global travel awards companies so much so that it is now considered to be on a par with South East Asia when it comes to costs. The time to visit Kiev is clearly now!

2. Gastronomical delights

Reasons to Visit Kiev

Ukraine has no shortage of incredible treats to devour, and Kiev is truly no exception. The hallmark features of traditional Ukrainian food have been forming over centuries. The neighbouring countries, the climate, the rich soil and the hard-working locals have influenced the intricacy of the dishes on offer. They are often accompanied with plenty of seasoning, predominantly lashings of garlic.

If you are a meat eater be sure to try the local borscht broth. Beef is placed in cold water to make a meat broth. The meat is then removed and other ingredients are added and cooked in a closed saucepan. Garlic fritters are given instead of bread, known as pampushki by locals. Naturally, the Chicken Kievs has also put the Ukrainian capital on the international food map. If meat isn’t your thing, you won’t be disappointed with the mouth-watering potato pancakes either.

3. Great Markets

Speaking of food – there’s one more reason why Kiev is amazing and that is its street markets. While most of the people go to Besarabsky Market, Zhitniy Market in the Podil district is a lesser known gem. If food is a big part of your holiday, why not consider one of the city’s many culinary tours?

4. Stunning Architecture

Reasons to Visit Kiev

The architecture of Kiev is incredibly magnificent. The unique and super diverse cityscape has been evolving for 14 centuries. As a result, the streets and buildings of the Ukrainian capital combine more than 30 different architectural styles. Keep an eye out for gold capped churches, impressive theatres, University buildings or the famous Motherland Monument.

5. Perfect Parks

Renowned as one of the greenest cities in the world, it is no surprise that Kiev has one too many parks that are ideal for unwinding after a long day touring the city.  One of the best places to relax in Kiev is Shevchenko Park, located in the very centre, close to the main University building. You can readily spend hours in this park; chilling on the cool funky benches, watching life go by, reading your favourite novel or taking a quick forty winks. Shevchenko Park is the perfect place to escape the everyday whirl of city life and enjoy a breath of fresh air.
