Sliema - Painting the town red

David Walker - Sliema Street Art Festival

Summer has arrived in full force and with countless opportunities to eat, swim and sunbathe during the day and events such as Isle of MTV and the first ever Malta Street Art Festival I have been enjoying every second Malta has to offer this summer so far. Dare I say it could be the best summer ever!

I have fallen in love with Sliema and the surrounding areas over the last few weeks. The entire promenade was the host of the Malta Street Art Festival. Amazing artists from all over the world, such as David Walker (UK), Tank (Germany) Mr Dheo (Portugal) and Sofles (Australia), just to name a few, came to Malta for this 3 day event and showcased their incredible talents. Over 200 m2 of walls were used as wall art and permission was given to all the artists to decorate any object on the entire promenade! The coolest thing is that all the artwork is going to remain on display for the whole summer. Every time I walk past I spot something new or different.

St Julian’s and Paceville are jam packed every night of the week now, full of people enjoying the night-life of restaurants, pubs, bars and nightclubs and although sometimes it is great to embrace the madness, occasionally my friends and I search for something a little different. On Friday nights, I have found a stylish beach bar called Exiles Beach Club, also in Sliema. It starts quite early, around 7.30pm, so my friends and I can all meet up, get excited for the weekend and watch the beautiful sunset over Balluta Bay. Their cocktails are great, especially their mojitos, and the resident DJ, DJ Digits and invited guests, play their own unique blend of solid grooves, funky vibes and swinging beats. It really is the perfect way to start the weekend.

A quick glance at my watch tells me that I have been inside for too long already today! The beach is calling and the weekend feels very close. I will be back soon to update on my next adventure. Long live Summer!
