Notte Bianca - A Magical Evening of Light, Culture and Festivity

19 August 2016

Notte Bianca, or White Night in English, is one of Malta’s biggest and most beloved cultural events. This nocturnal event in the beautiful setting of Valletta sees the city come to life from the city gates all the way down to Fort St. Elmo. Book your flights to Malta now so as not to miss out on this incandescent display of art, culture and light!

This year marks the 11th edition of this event which will be taking place on Saturday 1st October. Valletta will be lit up late into the night putting the beautiful architecture of the city on display for everyone to enjoy. What’s more, the state palaces and museums will open their doors to give you the rare opportunity to visit these spectacular buildings by night.  The capital city will also be bursting with culture, colour and life as art exhibitions and performances from local acts and artists will be taking place at the magnificent venues which Valletta has to offer.

If you’re more in the mood to wander the streets and piazzas, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to see a number of great musical performances from local and international acts. Take your pick of music ranging from rock and indie music to Maltese folk, whatever tickles your fancy, you’ll surely find it. Artistic displays such as local and international dancers and artists will also be found lining the many narrow streets of Valletta. With over 1000 performers and over 100 different events taking place, there will always be something to see and do.

No event would be complete without mouth-watering street food for you to enjoy, something that is in no short supply during this event. On every corner of every street you will be spoilt for choice with the number of street venders selling delicious traditional and international food for you to enjoy. All the restaurants in Valletta will stay open late too so why not relax at one in of the many piazzas, order a nice meal with your family and friends and watch the entertainment unfold before your eyes?

The atmosphere is truly electric with everyone lightheartedly enjoying the spectacles. This year in particular will be very special as the count-down to Valletta becoming the capital of European Culture in 2018 begins. Special efforts are being employed this year to boost new media and audio visual art displays in the run up to 2018.

Last year, over 70,000 people travelled to the capital for Notte Bianca creating an unforgettable atmosphere. So what are you waiting for? Pick out some elegant attire and get ready for the best artistic event in Malta!
