Medieval Mdina Festival 2018

16 April 2018

The Mdina Medieval Festival is back for its 10th year anniversary and is once again pulling out all the stops to create a magical two-day festival for all to enjoy.

Mdina, Malta’s old capital - a city of wonder, winding alleys, cobbled streets and some of the most wonderful Medieval architecture Malta has to offer.  Mdina boasts a thriving history, one that features many rulers, architectural variety and guaranteed breathtaking views. Mdina is located in the North West of Malta and is noted as the highest point of the island. During the Medieval Ages, Mdina was the safest part of the country, mostly due to its distance from the sea. Travelling through the city in the days of yore was a magical journey that modern day might find hard to live up to. What if you could walk through the streets of the Medina as the local knights did eons ago?

This May, Mdina’s aptly named festival comes to life once again. Clear your calendar for Saturday the 5th and Sunday 6th May as this jam packed weekend is a treat for all the family.

Take a trip back in time and enjoy the bountiful entertainment fit for a king! Feast your eyes on the re-enactment plays brought to you by local and foreign acts accompanied by Medieval music and concerts. Keep yourself occupied with the dancing, sword fights and the elegant costumes on display but don’t forget to try some interesting food.

The Mdina Medieval Festival features a Medieval Kitchen where you can savour the flavours of the archaic age. Live like the nobles and enjoy a glass of wine poured right out of a wooden tavern! Once your belly’s full, find your way to the Falconry area and watch some majestic falcons soar over the Mdina alleys as they wow the crowd.

Get the kids involved - with so many activities and spectacles taking place throughout the città notabile. Parades, Magic Shows and Live Music will keep both the kids and adults at the Festival cheery throughout the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled, there’s action on every corner with Flag Throwing Contests and spontaneous re-enactments that can take you by surprise.

You don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy this crowd, but if archaic culture is up your alley then the Medieval Mdina Festival is the yearly event for you. Book yourself a guided tour through the city, take a look at the Mdina Dungeons or pay a visit to Mdina’s historical house - Palazzo Falson. Not only will tourist attractions be open till late but they will also be offering reduced prices for the duration of the Festival. The festival is an educational and exciting display of what life may have been like in a Malta some 1,000 years ago.

So what are you waiting for? Get your hands on some cheap flight to Malta and make your way to the Medieval city of Mdina where culture and magic are not only a thing of the past.
