Celebrate diversity at Malta Pride Week 2019

15 July 2019

Join Malta's celebrations for being amongst the best countries for LGBT rights in the world! Organised by Allied Rainbow Communities (ARC), the 2019 Malta Pride Parade and Celebration Week will take place between 6th-15th September in Valletta. Following an outstanding record number of participants last year, ARC is aiming to engage an even greater crowd this time.

Grab your rainbow flag and make sure you head to Valletta during your holidays in Malta this September!

What can you expect?

Malta Pride will celebrate Malta's number one ranking as the most LGBTIQ-friendly country in Europe (ILGA Rainbow Index), the Marriage Equality Act, diversity within Maltese society and will highlight the need to raise more awareness, improve and tackle LGBTIQ health-related issues. The theme of this year's pride is "From Riots to Rainbows, 50 years since Stonewall."

Last year Valletta was turned into a rich tapestry of colour as Malta celebrated its LGBTIQ members during its annual Pride Parade and this year will be no exception!

People of all ages made it to Triton Fountain for the start of the event, which saw people and plenty of decorated floats parade through Valletta before making their way to Herbert Ganado Gardens for a free open-air concert. The famous Saturday's Pride Parade is the culmination of a week's worth of activities celebrating the LGBTIQ community, and this year will be the third since Malta passed a marriage equality bill into law.  Last year official buildings and Maltese landmarks flew rainbow flags to mark the occasion. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Opposition Leader Adrian Delia joined a host of NGOs, activists and civilians, with many dressed up for the event.

Join the celebrations!

This year's parade will be held on Saturday 14th September, and people are highly recommended to gather at 5:00pm at The Granaries (Il-Fosos) in Floriana to join in. That's where the fun really starts! Several floats, performances, giveaways and speeches will take place at this location before the March commences. The March will finish at St. George's Square in Valletta and a Free Concert will proceed until 11 pm. Following the parade, the Official Pride After-Party by S2S Events (17+ only) will take place at Gianpula Fields in Rabat from 10.30pm onwards.

The Malta Pride March has become an unmissable yearly event on Malta's calendar.  From a few courageous activists back in 2004 marching down in Valletta demanding recognition, to thousands of individuals from all walks of life last year who came together to celebrate diversity in all its forms.
