Inarguably one of the best places you can experience during the Christmas season is Valletta. During this magical time of the year, the city comes alive with beautifully decorated streets boasting a variety of shops enticing you to step inside. From international chains to local produce shops, from vintage boutiques to souvenir stores, you’ll find everything you need to treat yourself and your loved ones! Stroll down along Merchants Street and Republic Street, and don’t forget to check out the backstreets where you can find many cosy restaurants and bars open till late.

Paola is the most popular shopping destination in the South of Malta with its epicentre being the Main Street Shopping Centre. Shopping here for Christmas is one of our suggestions not only because you’ll find some of the most famous fashion brands sitting alongside unique boutiques and independent stores, but also because you’re bound to find better deals here than the rest of Malta!

Located a stone’s throw away from Paola is the town of Fgura, also home to several establishments. With the wide variety and bargains you’ll come across in both Paola and Fgura, you’ll surely go back home feeling productive and happy with all the purchases you’ve managed to make.

Sliema is a coastal town located to the East of Valletta’s peninsula and it is by far the largest commercial area on the island. If you’re looking to be spoilt for choice, Sliema will suit you perfectly as here you can find a long list of high-street stores as well as designer outlets.  Get lost in Malta’s biggest shopping centre, The Point Shopping Centre and do not miss out on Plaza Shopping Centre either.

Following your successful shopping spree, stroll along Sliema’s charming promenade while soaking up the beautiful skyline of Valletta on the opposite side, with a hot chocolate in hand!

Neighbouring Sliema is the vibrant party town of St. Julians with its own shopping centre as well. For all the late shoppers out there, good news because Bay Street Shopping Complex in St. Julians is open till 10 pm every day!

One of the largest towns in Malta located at the heart of the island, Birkirkara is a city that still holds its traditional roots and great history whilst at the same time has gained the reputation of a famous shopping district. In Birkirkara, you can find some of the best shops and restaurants to reward yourself with an end-of-the-year treat.

While Sliema and Valletta are the typical go-to shopping destinations for tourists when in Malta, Paola, Fgura and Birkirkara are the ideal places to visit for those who still enjoy a good shopping trip but are not too keen on crowds.

Book flights to Malta now, and channel your inner shopaholic with a visit to Malta’s delightful shopping destinations!
