BOV Performing Arts Festival
The BOV Opera Festival is one of the most anticipated events of Malta's cultural and operatic calendar.
The annual Teatru Manoel BOV Performing Arts Festival kicked off on March 14th this year, with a double-bill featuring Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at the Manoel Theatre. Featuring both local and foreign performers, this predominant Maltese production has seen local directors Denise Mulholland and Nanette Brimmer and set designer Pierre Portelli taking charge.
The much anticipated
second event will see a performance by the MNOZIL Brass Band on Friday, May 3rd. The MNOZIL Brass which features seven musicians has been giving concerts on a regular basis the world over, including at prominent venues such as the
Musikverien Wien, the
KKL Luzern, the
Royal Albert Hall and
Burgtheater Vienna among others. Combining comedy and talented musicianship, this brass ensemble will be performing an eclectic mix.
The
third event is the
Lieder Recital which is due to take place on May 7th. The event will see Malta’s own
Gillian Zammit, an established soprano both locally and overseas, performing an operatic repertoire that ranges from Baroque to 20th Century Opera accompanied by pianist
Lucia Micallef.
