Malta Summer FruitSweet Summer Fruit

Maltese fruit is tasty, nutritious and fresh!

Maltese summers can be characterised by the scorching sunshine, clear blue seas, barbeques on the beach with friends… and our fresh summer fruit, of course!

A visit to the local grocery will reveal a great selection of fresh fruit that’s typical for Maltese summers, be it large and in charge melons and watermelons, by-the-handful grapes, plums, peaches and nectarines or even the rare sighting of pomegranates and figs.

Whether you’re just taking a stroll on the seafront or enjoying a barbeque with family and friends, you can enjoy local fruit in many ways. Malta’s definitely the right place for you if you love fresh fruit for breakfast, as a snack or as a supplement for every meal.

Here are a few ways you can make the best out of Malta’s fantastic selection of fresh and tasty fruit.

Fruit salad
The Maltese love a good fruit salad! To make it as colourful, and tasty, as possible, aim to have a selection of watermelon, kiwis, apples, peaches, oranges and grapes. Chop them up, add some sweet liqueur to the mix and voila!

You don’t have to be a health freak to enjoy a yummy juice or smoothie made from the freshest fruits. And if you are a health freak, specifically one that verges closer to the freak end of the spectrum, you could always add a couple of shots to spice things up and make yourself a yummy fresh fruit cocktail!

Fruit kebabs
One other way the Maltese love to enjoy their fruit is on a skewer. Once the barbeque is on, chop up pieces of fruit into cubes, stick the cubes on a wooden skewer and place on the grill for a couple of seconds. You can also enjoy this raw, it tastes wonderful either way!
