San Anton Garden

Once used as a harvest area by the Knights of Malta, The Kitchen Garden in Attard is one of the most historic gardens in Malta.

The beautiful garden is found at San Anton Palace, the President’s residence. Following an 18-month rehab, the garden now has a fantastic ambiance for family outings, especially late into the evening when fairy lights light up the entire garden. Providing vegetables and crops for San Anton palace since the 16th century, the garden has kept up the crops and features a large harvest area that produces vegetables, fruit and herbs.

Since its opening, The Kitchen Garden has become very popular with families due to its large play areas, as well as its petting zoo. The garden, spread over 2.5 acres, is home to several animals such as donkeys, ponies, cranes, goats, emus and other small animals. The garden also boasts two large play areas fully equipped with large play sets for children of all ages.

The Kitchen Garden cafeteria offers numerous light snacks and drinks. It features a milkshake bar that’s been a big hit with the kids and adults alike as it offers over 350 variations of delicious flavours. Profits from sales from the cafeteria go to the Community Chest Fund, the president’s charity.
The garden, playing area, cafeteria and the petting zoos are fully wheelchair accessible.

The gardens, accessible from opposite the rear entrance of San Anton Palace are open daily between 9.30 am to 6 pm, with closing time extending to 10pm in the summer months. Entrance is free.
