Piazza San Marco and the San Marco Basilica

 

This is one of the main centres of tourism in the city and as such, it can get quite crowded but don’t let this put you off. There are some really amazing architectural delights to snap and you should wander around the piazza taking in the majestic basilica and looking for some unique and interesting views. Don’t leave without getting a wide shot of the whole area though!

 

San Giorgio Maggiore

 

This delightful little island sits across an expansive lagoon that stretches from San Marco Square and is home to a lovely church. You can opt to take a picture from across the water, being sure to get in some of the gondolas floating around, or you can travel over by boat and get some more up-close shots on your way. Just a tip but place is particularly magical at sunset.

 

Palazzo Ducale

 

This impressive palace sits in St Mark’s Square and is right next to the basilica. Now a museum, the exterior is truly beautiful and there is no shortage of interesting angles to shoot from.

 

The Bridge of Sighs

 

One of Venice’s most famous bridges, The Bridge of Sighs connects Palazzo Ducale to an old prison and the name comes from the idea that prisoners would sigh at their last view of the outside world before they were locked away. A very popular spot, you may have to wait your turn to take your picture but trust us, it is worth the wait!

 

The Riva Degli Schiavone

 

If you take a walk down to the waterfront promenade you will be confronted with lots of opportunities to photography Venice’s iconic gondolas. They are lined up everywhere and you can walk right up to them to capture lots of interesting angles and perspectives.

 

The Rialto Bridge

 

One of the oldest and most famous bridges that cross the Grand Canal, this is a popular tourist spots and it is not hard to see why. With colourful buildings in the background, it is a beautiful and interesting subject and totally Instagram worthy.

 

Santa Maria di Nazareth

 

No trip to Venice is complete without a few shots of a church or cathedral. The Santa Maria di Nazareth is located next to the train station and is full of the most beautiful art and impressive details that are just begging to be photographed.These are just some of the places you have to photograph when you visit Venice, but a lot of the fun is discovering new and exciting locations to shoot the perfect picture!
