Extensively covered by both local as well as foreign media, ‘The Malta International Airshow’ is perhaps the most photographed event in Malta. If you’ve booked your flights to Malta this September, then you’re just in time to witness this marvellous spectacle.
Throughout the years, this event has won a valuable place in the hearts of both Maltese and foreigners alike and has established itself as an annual family outing. This year the airshow is set to be held on the 26th and 27th September at the Malta International Airport and is organized by the Malta Aviation Society. Air Malta will also be present at this event whereby they will be selling retro memorabilia and branded merchandise at the Air Malta stand.
The ‘Malta International Airshow’ has been running for 21 years and has grown from strength to strength. In its first edition held in 1993, the Airshow was organised over the beautiful Marsamxett Harbour in Valletta. The public was left in awe as the Patrouille de France and the German Air Force ‘Luftwaffe’ F-4 Phantom glide a mere few inches above Malta’s crystal blue waters.
Throughout the years, the Malta International Airshow has attracted aircrafts from all over the globe which have delighted its public by providing captivating performances time and time again. Most European national display teams – such as the well-known Red Arrows, Patrouille de France, the Spanish team Patruila Aguoila, Swiss PC 7-Team and the Breitling Jet Team – have dazzled audiences of all ages. Aircrafts which have graced our skies include the Czech L-39, Israeli F-15s and F-16s, Do-228 and Italian F-104s , Ex-Israeli A-4 Skyhawks, US Navy F-14, EA-6B, S-3s, F-18s, Tornados, B-52, B-1B, Spitfire and Hurricane.
Once again the 2015 edition of the event will feature participants hailing from all across the world. European participants will include the Armed Forces of Malta, the Beligian Air Force, the German Navy, the Greek Hellenic Air Force, the Italian Air Force, The Polish Air Force, the Royal Air Force, the Romanian Air Force and the Swiss Air Force. Non-European participants include the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Egyptian Air Force, the NATO E-3A Component, the Gulf Helicopters (representing Qatar) and the United States Air Force. The full list of participants and their aircrafts can be seen here.
