Rock the South at ZION – see what I’ve been up to!

Zion

Ever since I moved to Malta, I have always been told from my southerner friends that there is nowhere to go to in the southern region of the island for a night out.   That was until I stumbled on a quaint little bar at St Thomas Bay in Marsascala.

Zion is idyllically located by the sea providing the ideal backdrop for a 2-day rock festival aptly named Rock the South. Combining local and foreign bands from all genres of music including Indie, Alternative, Punk and Rock, the festival also showcased French duo rock band Come for the first time on the island whilst also witnessing the return of Italian band AIM.  Local alternative favourites Cable35 also launched their new album at the two-day event.

The chill out area and acoustic stage provided the opportunity for acts to perform in between the changeover of the main stage while DJ’s Davide Zane and Michael Bugeja played a great set of dance-y indie and alternative tracks closing the event.

All in all, the festival gave an enhanced exposure for local bands including No Snow/No Alps, Bletchley Park, Dripht and Bark Bark Disco to perform to a larger audience. With so many bands to see, I unfortunately had to miss out on a few acts to sit on the beach and enjoy the view under a starlit sky 😉
