For the adrenaline junkies, petrol heads, and speed freaks out there, this October is set to tick all the boxes! Whether you’re a local, or are planning to book flights to Malta this autumn, you’re guaranteed to experience a racing event like no other at The Malta Classic 2017.
From 5th – 8th October, The Malta Classic will put on a show like no other. Every year, this unique event attracts people from all over the world to Malta’s sunny shores to witness and appreciate classic cars. This year, car enthusiasts from Malta, UK, USA, Austria, Switzerland and France will be coming together to compete.
Over the course of four days, the event combines history, elegance, and performance in three adrenaline-filled events that will entertain everyone from hardcore enthusiasts to those just looking for a day out with a difference.
Malta Hill Classic Climb
Taking place in Mellieha on the 5th of October, this is somewhat of a pre-event. Contestants will get the chance to race their cars to the top of a winding hill to test their performance. This event is anticipated to be a pure adrenaline rush of cars racing to the top of magnificent Ta’Pennellu hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
Malta Classic Concours d’Elegance
Next up on the 6th October is the Concours d’Elegance. This event celebrates the fusion of power and beauty in the streets of Mdina. Certain car collectors are invited to display their pristine pride and joys for the viewing pleasure of visitors. With entertainment, food and people dressed in costumes, the Concours d’Elegance is one of the highlights of the weekend. What’s more, it’s completely free for members of the public to attend.
Malta Classic Grand Prix
This is the event that everyone is waiting for! Taking place on the 7th and 8th October, The Malta Classic Grand Prix is the utmost pinnacle of the event. On day three, the vehicles are put to the test on a circuit following Mdina’s fortified walls. A myriad of tight bends and curves make a truly exhilarating race. Surrounded by terraced hills, vineyards, and historical architecture, this race with 8-10 cars racing at a time showcases the best performances from both drivers and their cars alike. The racing is followed by an award ceremony held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa.
The event started in 2007, when French classic car enthusiast, Thierry Giovannini came up with the idea of organising a classic car grand prix on the road that circles the historic capital of Valletta. His vision was to bring some of Europe’s most magnificent vehicles to the island in a spectacularly nail-biting race to the finish line. In 2011, the race was moved to historic Mdina, a location which creates a perfect balance between ancient architecture, and classic automobile design.
Whether you are an automobile enthusiast, or just looking to experience something a little bit different, The Malta Classic is a truly memorable experience. Bringing some of the most beautiful classic cars in the world to one of the Mediterranean’s most visually stunning locations is sure to create a fantastic day out for the whole family.
