La Bohème is world-famous opera divided into four acts by renowned Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The opera first premiered at the Teatro Regio in Turin, Italy on February 1st, 1896. The plot follows a bittersweet tragic romance and was initially based on the episodic novel Scènes de la vie de bohème (1847–49; “Scenes of Bohemian Life”) by French writer Henri Murger. A roaring success from the beginning, it is one of the most frequently performed operas of all time.
La Bohème, which marks Puccini’s emergence as a fully mature and original composer, bears some of the most memorable arias and musical scenes in opera. In this edition in Gozo, Colin Attard directs the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Aurora Opera Chorus and an international cast for this unforgettable performance while Vivien Hewitt will direct the stage. Having won many awards Hewitt is renowned for her Puccini expertise.
