Maltese-born tenor Joseph Calleja has become one of the most highly acclaimed and sought after tenors in the world. His incredible voice regularly prompts comparisons to some of the finest singers from the past including Pavarotti, Gigli and Caruso. The Maltese tenor, who made his operatic debut aged 19 in Verdi’s ‘Macbeth’ at the Astra Theatre in Gozo has since come a long way, performing to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in a private concert, as well as having won several awards including Gramaphone’s Artist of the Year award in 2012. In addition to this, Calleja has performed in some of the most magnificent opera houses around the world including the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Opera national du Rhin in Strasbourg, amongst many others. Calleja has also been highly successful on the other side of the Atlantic, and has performed in the prestigious Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as in Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago and Washington.
