Sip some of Malta’s finest wines at the highly popular Delicata Classic Wine Festival ! Here’s everything you need to know about the event!
How does a night under the stars sipping some of Malta’s finest wines, straight from the winemakers, with the Grand Harbour as a backdrop sound? It certainly sounds dreamy! But it doesn’t have to be limited to your dreams- as the Delicata Wine Festival returns!
The highly popular event is a staple fixture on the Maltese cultural calendar and this year local vineyard Delicata returns- bigger and better than ever before from the 8th-11th of August! Should you also wish to experience the event in the sister island of Gozo during your summer holidays in Malta, the Gozitan edition will be held in Nadur from the 23rd-25th August.
Emmanuel Delicata is a name that has been synonymous with good quality Maltese wine for more than 100 years. With humble roots starting as a family business in 1907, Delicata can now be found in every corner of the islands.
Where is the event?
The Maltese leg of the event will be held in the stunning Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta. With dreamy sunset views across the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities, this event combines culture, wine, and a beautiful setting for what is sure to be an unforgettable night.
Later in the month of August, it will take place in the characteristic Gozitan village of Nadur, renowned for the mouth-watering Gozitan ftira which you must try during your holidays in Malta!
Each event brings a cacophony of outstanding wine, great local plates to accompany, and top-notch entertainment.
What can you expect?
The gardens are transformed into a wine haven, with plenty of stands offering the chance to sample different wines.
Upon entry, you will be presented with a little pouch and tokens; how you choose to spend your tokens trialling the local grapes is entirely up to you! If it is anything like last year, there were over 25 wines to sample. These include top Delicata wines such as the semi-sparkling Frizzantes made from the native old bush vines Girgentina and Ä ellewża. There are the delicious white, red and rosé DOK Malta Medina and DOK Gozo Victoria Heights boutique wines, a selection of the flagship Gran Cavalier and Grand Vin de Hauteville ranges, as well as the sweeter lifestyle Dolcino and Falcon wines, the popular lush Casella Moscato and other varietals of the Classic Collection, and all three of the Pjazza Reġina wines.
Remember, drink driving is illegal in Malta, so play it safe and book a taxi home!
The event also sees a well-planned line up of top local talents perform across a series of nights. Previous years saw the renowned band, The Crowns, perform to a packed audience as well as The Busker, amongst others.
