This year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) is being held nowhere else but Malta! Taking place between the 27th and 29th of November, this is the second time that our island has been given the honour of hosting this vital event, after having done so with flair in 2005.

This year’s designated theme for CHOGM is The Commonwealth – Adding Global Value – certainly a theme which is in line with the Commonwealth’s ultimate aim to positively influence global issues, thereby improving the quality of life of all Commonwealth citizens to the fullest extent of the organisation’s power. Adding Global Value is about working towards achieving common goals within the Commonwealth; continually making individual countries more united together and so creating a collective progress.

CHOGM will be hosting various fora that are open for delegates to attend. Each of these have specific themes that align with the overarching theme of Adding Global Value. These fora are as follows:

• The Commonwealth People’s Forum, which will be discussing “What Makes Resilient Societies?” is being held between the 23th and 26th of November at the Corinthia Hotel in St. Julians.

• The Commonwealth Youth Forum, the theme of which will be ‘Adding Global value…#WHAT NEXT?’ This forum is taking between the 21st and 25th of November, at the DB San Antonio Hotel, Qawra.

• Furthering CHOGM’s drive towards gender equality is the Commonwealth Women’s forum, which has adopted the theme of ‘Women Ahead Be All that You Can Be’. This forum is being held at the Intercontinental hotel, St. Julians, between the 22nd – 24th of November.

• ‘Adding Global Value – Creating a More Prosperous Commonwealth’ is the chosen theme for the Commonwealth Business Forum, reflecting the forum’s desire to continually  improve the quality of the Commonwealth’s economic sector. The Hilton hotel in St. Julian’s will be hosting this forum between the 24th to 26th of November.

Delegates interested in any of these fora should look into booking their flights to Malta and checking out CHOGM’s official accommodation page to see what discounts are being offered on the various hotels endorsing the event.
