Q - What is Mobile Check-In?

A - Mobile Check-In is the next step that Air Malta is taking to facilitate the customer through Self Service Check-In.  It is based on Web Check-In where a customer can use his or her mobile phone or PDA to go on-line and complete the Self Service Check-In procedure.  However, rather than the passenger printing his or her own boarding pass, the boarding pass is saved as an image on the persons mobile device.

Q - Is it secure?

A - Yes.  Each boarding pass is unique and is verified with the corresponding details on Air Malta’s secure servers when the image is scanned.

Q - Is there a standard that was followed?

A - Yes.  The standard was set by IATA’s Simplifying the Business Programme

Q - What mobile can be used?

A - Any mobile that has internet connectivity through Wifi, GPRS, WAP, Edge or 3G can be used.  The information on boarding pass on the screen must be able to be read with the naked eye otherwise the passenger will be directed to the Check-In desks to get a paper boarding pass.

Q - What if I cannot find the boarding pass on his mobile phone?

A - If you cannot find the boarding pass on your mobile phone, contact the Air Malta representative at the airport and you will be directed to the check-in desks for a paper boarding pass.

Q - Where can I use Mobile Check-In?

A - For the time being Mobile Check-In is only available for Air Malta flights departing out of Malta.

Q - When can I use Mobile Check-In?

A - The same as Web Check-In, mobile check-in can be used from 23 hours and up to 2 hours before departure.

Q - Can I choose my preferred seat?

A - Yes. You are able to choose any seat that is available at the time of checking-in.

Q - Is the website easy to navigate?

A - Yes.  Mobile Check-In uses a technology where the make and model of your mobile phone is recognised and the web pages and boarding pass are sized to fit the corresponding screens.

Q - What is the boarding pass composed of?

A - The boarding pass is composed of a selection of text with the passengers name, and full flight details.  It also has a bar code that will be scanned before boarding the air craft.

Q - What does an Electronic Boarding Pass look like?

A - The Electronic Boarding Pass looks like this :

Electroinc Boarding Pass

Q - Who is this facility best suited to?

A - This facility is aimed for all travellers.  However it is best suited for those passengers travelling with out luggage.

Q - How many people can be checked-in using the facility?

A - One person at a time can be checked-in on this facility.

Q - How many Electronic Boarding Passes can be downloaded to a single mobile for travel on the same flight?

A - All passengers travelling in a family can utilise a single mobile phone for all their boarding passes.  However it is strongly suggested that passengers maintain a single boarding pass per mobile phone in order to encourage a speedy procedure at security or leaving the departure gate.

Q - What is the procedure at Security before entry into the departure lounge?

A - The security officer will verify that you have a valid boarding pass by reading your text passenger details on your mobile phone.  If at this stage the security officer cannot read the text for any reason, you will be directed to the check-in desk to collect a paper boarding pass.

Q - What is the procedure at the Duty Free Shops?

A - Normally a boarding pass is asked for and scanned when a passenger is making a purchase.  The procedure is the same for an electronic boarding pass; simply show the cashier the boarding pass on the mobile phone, which will be scanned.  The bar codes used are designed to be read by all scanners.

Q - What is the procedure in the VIP Lounges?

A - You need an invitation to enter the Business Class Lounge. This may be collected either from the baggage drop off counter or, alternatively, you may proceed directly to the lounge where the MIA hostess will then confirm your eligibility to use the lounge.

Q - What is the procedure at Immigration?

A - At Immigration, hand over your mobile phone to the officer so that s/he can verify the boarding pass details.

Q - What is the procedure at the Departure Gate?

A - Announcements will be made to remind customers to have their Boarding Passes (both Electronic and Paper) ready for scanning.  The passengers using an electronic boarding pass would be required to bring up the image on their device so that the agents may scan it as the passenger is leaving the departure lounge.  At this stage the agent will verbally remind you what your seat allocation is and to turn off the mobile phone.

Q - What is the procedure on entering the aircraft?

A - As you enter the aircraft, you would have already been reminded what your seat allocation is when leaving the gate.  However should you forget the seat allocation, you may turn on the phone to retrieve the data.  At this stage the crew will remind you to turn off the phone once the data is retreived.

Q - On the flight, Air Malta’s  policy is to ensure that passengers are to keep their mobile phones turned off. How is this policy effected if I am requested to verify my seat number?

A - Passengers using mobile check-in can turn on their phone on entering the craft to verify or ask direction to their seat from a crew member.  At this stage the crew will remind you to turn off the phone once the data is retreived.

Q - Should I have any questions about this system who can I contact?

A - You may contact Air Malta's Passenger Handling Services on E-mail if you have any questions about the service or process.

Q - How do passengers commence mobile check-in?

A - To go through the mobile check-in process log onto www.mobile-airmalta.com on your mobile phone and follow the steps.
