Pet Travel Made Easier with Air Malta
On the occasion of World Animal Day being celebrated today, Air Malta has launched an updated Pet Travel policy that makes it easier for passengers to travel with their beloved pets onboard the airline’s flights. Over 1,000 Air Malta passengers choose to travel with their pets every year.
The new addition to the current policy, which will commence from the start of the airline’s winter schedule on Sunday 27th October, will allow passengers to bring their pet with them at the airport on the day of travel and check them in with their luggage.
The pets, in their appropriate containers, will be taken care of through specific processes at the airport and carried onto the aircraft. This change will facilitate pet travel as passengers will not need to go and leave their pets at cargo depot points. Passengers making use of this facility have to check-in at least two hours before the scheduled time of departure.
The revised Air Malta pet travel policy will now offer passengers three options, either to carry them in the aircraft cabin, as cargo, or the new option – to check them in with their luggage. The choice of these options depends on the type, size, origin and destination of pets. Applicable fees are charged depending on the option chosen.
It is important that passengers wishing to travel with their pets familiarise themselves and follow thoroughly the appropriate procedures, the pet passport and any other required documentation, including the flight booking as required. It is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure adherence to the pet travel policies. Certain limitations on pet travel exist depending on the country of origin and destination.
The current Air Malta policies related to the travelling with pets in the passenger cabin, as cargo and the policy related to passengers travelling with guide dogs in the cabin remain unchanged.
