Air Malta gears up for Venice route with roadshows in Italy

Date: Wednesday 28th May 2014
Ref: 047 – 2014 EN

Air Malta last month organised a series of roadshows around the Italian region of Veneto to mark the launch of its new Venice route.

The roadshows, targeted at travel agencies around the region, were or-ganised in collaboration with Venice Marco Polo Airport and the Italian office of Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).

They were held in the Venetian cities of Mestre, Padova and Udine.

During these events, Air Malta promoted the Maltese islands and high-lighted the airline’s services to boost sales on the new route which was launched simultaneously with another new route to Parma.

“The industry has responded well to these new routes. The attendance at these roadshows was great so we’re very excited by the prospects ahead. These roadshows have been complemented by a sales blitz in the region throughout April, targeting primarily the cities of Padova, Treviso and Mestre,” said Chief Commercial Officer Philip Saunders.

A spokeswoman for the Marco Polo Airport in Venice, Delia dell Asin, said: “The response exceeded our expectations. We’re expecting a very promising future for the new Air Malta-Venice route.”

The city of Venice is a major tourist destination, situated in north eastern Italy. It is renowned for its beautiful canals, architecture and art and ranks as a World Heritage site.

Air Malta will start flying directly to Venice Marco Polo (VCE) three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from June 2.

This summer Air Malta will also be flying to Parma’s Giuseppe Verdi Airport (PMF) twice weekly, every Monday and Thursday starting from June 2. Guiseppe Verdi is one of the four Milan-area airports alongside Linate, Malpensa and Bergamo.
