Air Malta’s Commitment

Climate change has become one of the key issues facing the airline industry. We at Air Malta are taking this issue very seriously and together with our partners, Airbus, the Association of European Airlines (AEA) and the International Air Transport Association we are working to reduce emissions, waste and become more environmentally responsible in all things we do.

Air Malta’s environmental activism has become an integral part of the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme and we are determined to continue fulfilling our social obligations whilst supporting organizations and initiatives that add value to our community.

Air Malta has on various occasions sponsored a number of tree planting events, actively involving its employees. In the past year Air Malta has planted trees as part of the Tree 4U campaign at Ta’Qali, Salini and at the Sports Complex of Luqa St.Andrews. It has also donated 350 olive trees to the Koperattiva Rurali Manikata. Air Malta is also promoting initiatives being undertaken by Nature Trust (Malta).

You may now join Air Malta in helping make a greener world.

Air Malta’s Corporate Social Responsibility Programme

Air Malta was one of the first Maltese organisations to drive the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility on the islands. Through the years since its inception it has assisted various organizations and individuals in diverse fields including humanitarian, medical and social cases, environmental causes, heritage protection, philanthropic activities as well as cultural and sport related initiatives.

The Maltese airline takes great pride in being at the forefront of CSR and every year it commits over € 300,000 in direct and indirect assistance to these initiatives.

Apart from assisting various activities that enhance the island’s cultural activities, Air Malta assists patients with their travel requirements to undergo medical treatment abroad, including patients that need to travel on a stretcher. The airline has also invested in a special housing, approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency, for a baby incubator to be able to fit onboard the airline’s Airbus aircraft and carry newborn babies that require urgent medical treatment abroad.

Air Malta routinely organises fund raising initiatives onboard its flights towards worthy causes. Recent fund raising was devoted to Hospice, Breast Care Support Group and the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Air Malta employees also significantly contribute to the airline’s CSR activities. Recent events include blood donation, fund raising for Puttinu Cares and donation of interactive electronic games to Rainbow Ward, charity bike rides, and the philanthropic flight to Lourdes for the Malta Hospice Movement and Puttinu children.

Air Malta employees have also setup a philanthropic fund by the name of Fund For Smile. This organisation was setup 14 years ago and organises various activities for children with special needs. In these last 5 years this organisation, which aims to bring a smile on children’s faces, has managed to collect and distribute over € 55,000. Every year Air Malta’s employees also donate part of their salary to Dar Tal-Providenza, with the airline matching up the employees’ contribution.

Other organisations which have benefitted from Air Malta CSR initiatives include the Caritas, il-Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, Inspire and the Malta Olympic Committee.
