Are you an Oenophile? Oenophilia describes a devotion to wine, its consumption and appreciation. The Maltese love their wine, with not one but two wine festivals held annually by Marsovin and Delicata respectively. Delicata’s festival is held in Valletta and in Gozo towards the end of Summer. As a self-confessed wine lover I will also be writing about and attending that festival too! Marsovin Summer Wine Festival is taking place in just a couple of weeks, from the 18th to the 20th July, every evening from 20:00 - 01:00.
Now in its seventh year the Marsovin Summer Wine Festival is set to be a celebration with a difference. The location alone, the Hastings Gardens in Valletta, lends itself for you to relax with a fine glass of wine while enjoying the majestic views from the bastions. The event is focused on a highly cultural and entertaining concept offering a range of professional musicians and performers every evening.
Marsovin will be offering a selection of 30 different D.O.K and I.Ġ.T wines from grapes grown all around Malta and Gozo. Though Marsovin encourages its guests to taste its extensive range of wines, it also encourages drinking in moderation. When you enter the festival you will be asked to pay a token fee of €15. This will entitle you to €15 worth of wine tokens and a free Premium festival wine glass to use during the event and to take home with you as a souvenir.
Some of the artists in this year’s line-up include one of Malta's leading bands known as Tribali. They will be performing a range of improvised music. Red Electrick will be treating the audience to a rare unplugged acoustic set while Airport Impressions, one of the most successful bands to emerge locally in the last few years will also be gracing the stage. The Creepers, a cutting edge vintage blues band will also entertain the crowd and The New Victorians, another emerging local band will perform as well. Expect Belly Dancers, other live acts and chill out music amongst other attractions throughout the festival.
Marsovin has arranged for various restaurants and caterers, to show case their cuisine offering a small but enticing selection of dishes at very reasonable prices throughout the festival. Temptasian will be manning a sushi bar, New York Best will be offering freshly made pizza on site and Chukkas Grill will be chargrilling a variety of meats. James Caterers will be preparing freshly made pasta and last but not least Bezzina's will be preparing an array of mouth-watering traditional Maltese dishes.
Indulge your senses, treat your taste buds and be sure not to miss the Marsovin Summer Festival!
